Plans for the establishment of Brentwood Academy began early in 1969, and the charter was signed on November 20, 1969. In December of that same year, the school was offered 10 acres of land on Granny White Pike. The first building, containing four classrooms, a science laboratory, boys’ and girls’ dressing rooms, administrative offices, and a commons area, was completed in August 1970. The first classes were held on September 8, 1970, and thus, Brentwood Academy began. Since the school’s founding, goals have been centered around the education of young people, through individualized instruction, in an environment conducive to the nurturing of each student’s mind, spirit, and body. This, then has informed the Triangle philosophy of the school which culminates in Academics, Christian Life, and Athletics.
Over the last 50+ years, Brentwood Academy’s campus has grown to fifty acres which includes academic, athletic, and fine arts buildings serving approximately 750 students each year.
While our academic roots are in a traditional, college preparatory curriculum, we also inspire students to dig deeper into their unique, God-given talents and interests. Our programs include honors and Advanced Placement courses in each discipline, as well as exemplary fine arts distinctions and robotics opportunities for a complete liberal arts education.
At Brentwood Academy, small classes are led by faculty who are accomplished in their fields of study and who create an ideal environment for academic growth and success. In fact, 65% of the faculty hold post-baccalaureate degrees. Students graduating from BA have a 100% college acceptance rate.
Brentwood Academy’s Middle School serves students in grades six through eight, focusing all aspects of school life on fulfilling the school’s mission to nurture and challenge each whole person to the glory of God. Middle schoolers at Brentwood Academy take a wide range of core courses and electives, including Bible, english, history, science, math, world languages, art, robotics, and leadership. Brentwood Academy’s Upper School serves students in grades nine through twelve. Honors and Advanced Placement courses are offered in Bible, English, world languages, math, science, history, fine arts, journalism, speech, and more.
In addition to the programs and classes available, Christian Life at Brentwood Academy involves the classroom, the playing field, the band room, and the hallways. Brentwood Academy believes that everything is spiritual and that Jesus Christ gives everything purpose. In turn each faculty and staff member at BA has a personal and growing relationship with Christ and adheres to our Statement of Faith. While the religious beliefs of each student will be respected, the school will continuously teach Biblical truths and values. Weekly, students will attend chapel, a meaningful time for students to go deeper in God’s word and hear messages from faculty, fellow students, and outside speakers. Brentwood Academy wants every student to have the opportunity to experience God. We believe that each student has unique, God-given talents and abilities that we are committed to helping students discover and explore to their fullest potential.
The purpose of the athletic program at Brentwood Academy is to foster physical development and athletic skills while teaching the value of personal discipline, commitment, and the subordination of self-interest to the higher goal of team contribution. All students participate in a variety of sports or physical education classes each day as part of BA’s mission to educate each whole person to the glory of God. The athletic programs at BA experience much success and its individual student-athletes many accolades. We believe in developing each student’s athletic ability, as we continue to educate and disciple them at Brentwood Academy.
One of the crown jewels of the United States, Nashville has become a true destination city. It is ranked as one of the top 25 cities to live in the USA and is known for its rich roots in history, country music, food, sports, and education.
Nashville is a major hub for multiple industries including healthcare, automotive, technology, publishing, banking, and transportation. Likewise, with numerous colleges and universities, Nashville is often referred to as the “Athens of the South” with top-ranked higher education institutions including Vanderbilt University, Belmont University, Fisk University, Meharry Medical College, and Lipscomb University among many others.
Home to the NFL Tennessee Titans, the NHL Nashville Predators, and the MLS Nashville Soccer Club - professional sports are well represented in the city. Nashville is also well known for its beautiful parks, highlighted by Centennial Park, which is home to a full-scale replica of the famous Parthenon in Athens, Greece.
Commonly known as “Music City,” Nashville is home to the Grand Ole Opry, which is home to the longest-running radio broadcast in US history. But the Opry House isn’t the only place to find live music in the city. With many iconic venues including the Ryman Auditorium, FirstBank Ampitheater, The BlueBird Café, and Schermerhorn Symphony Center, music is a celebrated and vital part of the city’s culture.
Although country music has a sealed stamp on Nashville, the city arguably hosts the world’s best barbecue and “Hot Chicken.” The taste of traditional southern food mixed with local creativity gives another reason for visitors to stay a little longer.
